"Woksape," Words of Encouragement for Lakota youth, present and future

Carl Norquist

The Heart Of All Oral History Project is an audio series produced by students at Little Wound school with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The series preserves the oral traditions of elders and shares their stories and wisdom with a new generation.

Throughout the series, elders have shared experiences of pain and loss, joy and triumph. Although work for justice, equity, and reparations continues, elders make it clear that through community and perseverance there are no challenges the nation can't overcome.

In this final segment, you will hear "Woksape," or Words of Encouragement, for all Lakota youth, present and future.

That was an excerpt from the final episode of the Lakota oral history project, which concluded Wednesday on KILI Radio. Thank you to the students and staff at Little Wound School who conducted and edited the interviews. The full audio series is available for streaming now.
